Apolito, Tim. Tim Apolito, affectionately known to friends and students as “Popalito”, passed away on December 10, 2018 at the age of 75 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Apolito and his mother, Mary (nee Bailey) Apolito. Tim will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 23 years, Betsy and his children, Dan (Michelle), Laura (Matt) Valangeon, and Drew (Murken). Tim’s antics and humor will be fondly remembered by his 5 grandchildren, Morgan, Ally, Coleman, Bennett, and Neko, by his sister Peggy Smith, and his cousins Jim (Michelle) Caputo, Judy (Dave) Rogaski-Caputo and many extended family, friends, and former students. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Tim attended the Universities of Dayton and Xavier where he earned advanced degrees in education and counseling. Tim was a former Brother in Society of Mary, served as a Dayton Metro Parks Ranger, Montgomery County Sheriff, and officer with the Bellbrook Police Department. He was a counselor at Centerville City Schools for 32 years. After retirement in 1999, Tim accepted a full-time position as a Professor of Criminal Justice Studies and Coordinator of Internships at the University of Dayton. He retired in July of 2017. Fishing and photography were his passions. In his 28 years as a charter captain on Lake Erie, he and his best buddy Don “Smitty” Smith helped fellow anglers catch limits of walleye and perch off the coast of Marblehead. A celebration of Tim’s life will be held on Saturday, January 5, at the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception on the University of Dayton campus, 300 College Park Drive, Dayton with Fr. Gene Contadino officiating.
