Hausfeld, Brother Walter (Mechanical Drawing). Â Dave Pfriem notes that Brother Wally was a remarkable man. Â He contracted cancer of the throat after we graduated and had his vocal cords removed as a result. Â After recovering from surgery, he went back to teaching and refused a microphone to assist his teaching voice. Â He talkeed by 'belching' air, and he was very good at it. Â Later, Dave taught with Brother Wally at Purcell High in Cincinnati. Â He was Wally's helper in constructing a library for the faculty house (in this case, helper means carrying the lumber and tools). Â Brother Wally measured and cut eveything perfectly, leaving almost no scrap. Â It was a beautiful library when he was finished. Brother Wally provided the punch line (unknowingly) to one of the funniest capers described by Dave Pfriem in his book 'Uncommon Bonds.' Â Brother Wally remained a lifetime member of the Society of Mary and died in 1981.
